How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a dimensional red copper with a shadow root. My favorite thing about this look is the depth in the colors. My goal was to create a red copper that was going to look natural, but still have a pop.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I used Paul Mitchell Synchro Lift 20vol to balayage pieces on top and around her face. Then I dried her and applied ColorXG 6RO + 5RO 30vol. To achieve her curls, I used the Paul Mitchell Neuro Unclipped Small Cone. I alternated every curl, then created a sweep bang with a Neuro Smooth iron. I finished the look with Paul Mitchell Neon Sugar Twist.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

I believe any hair type can be red. Curly, straight, fine, or thick — really anyone can pull off red. I will say not every skin tone can pull off this red. This red hair looks best on someone with a paler skin tone. The key to red is finding one that fits you.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

To maintain this red, I encourage my clients take home a good color safe shampoo and conditioner. My favorite is Paul Mitchell Ultimate Color Repair. It helps your color to last up to nine weeks. This line also includes a thermal spray and a weekly mask.

I also never let my reds leave without a dry shampoo. The more you shampoo the more your color will fade. When you do shampoo, use cold water. This will cause less fading and close the cuticle on your hair. I see my clients with red hair every six weeks. If you are looking to achieve this auburn-inspired look, ask your stylist for a dimensional red with a shadow root.

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This color is a bright auburn, inspired by Ana from Frozen. My favorite thing is that the client is not a natural redhead. I love creating reds that look natural on someone who’s not naturally a redhead!

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I used Wella Color Touch for this look.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Fair skin always looks great with this tone and any hair type can pull off the style, but I think confidence is key for pulling off any look.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

A salon quality color-safe shampoo and conditioner is a must to maintain this color. There are some tinted shampoos with red hues in them that you can use, just be careful it doesn’t shift you into a cherry red. If you want your color to last you have to invest in quality products at home. Shampoo as infrequently as you feel comfortable, and find a good dry shampoo that you love and make it your best friend. Always condition after shampooing. The trick to a good conditioning is to ring your hair out before you put conditioner on and only put conditioner on from the ears DOWN, your roots don’t need the conditioner as much as the ends.

Bring pictures when communicating to a stylist what you’re looking for. Auburn, copper and ginger can all mean different things to different stylists. Your stylist should be able to go over the photos with you once you’re in the salon.

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

During the consultation, my client and I decided that we wanted to do something that was low maintenance, but still multidimensional. We decided using a warm, coppery-brown base with balayaged pieces of a brighter golden copper. I love that it is spicy and rich in color, and also that it looks almost natural on her without being flat.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

Here I used Davines LOVE Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner because she has hair that tends to get frizzy. On wet hair, I applied Sebastian Whipped Cream mousse for body and moisture, then Oribe Styling Cream for heat protection and a luxuriously smooth and shiny finish. After I curled her with a flat iron, I used Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray as I separated the curls using my fingers for a textured finished look.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Auburn hair looks so flattering on warm to neutral skin tones — on people with green, hazel or brown eyes especially! For this specific color and style, I think people with fine to thick textured hair with long layers can pull it off best. Any hair type can look beautiful when using great products and styling methods.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

Always remember that cool water helps prevent color fading! When I see her again to touch up her roots, I will simply glaze over the balayaged pieces to enhance their color and add shine. We will not need to do balayage every single visit.

Communicating with your colorist goes so much smoother if you bring pictures of what you want, as well as talking openly about maintenance up-keep and cost concerns. Use words like “subtle”, “soft”, “natural”, “high contrasting” and “bold” to describe how you want your color to look. This helps us out a lot!

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This warm, auburn color on sleek hair is so on trend. This was the perfect change from the client’s previous warm brown balayage highlight.

What I love most is the depth and color tonality of the shades. The color looks brown auburn in cool lighting and a deeper burgundy red shade in warm sunlight.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I would recommend a sulfate-free, color gentle, cruelty-free shampoo. I am a fan of Pureology and Avalon Organics Hair Care Products. Their shampoos and conditioners are non-stripping and enhance the hair’s natural shine, so minimum styling products are required.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Warm skin tones or anyone with a natural hair level 5-light brown to natural black would look best with auburn colors.

The sleek, long layer, blowout razor haircut would suit any client with thick, shoulder length hair that is looking to update their look by removing weighty bulkiness , but without having to trim more than two inches of hair.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

Recreating this look requires a patient color specialist to properly pre-treat, lift, tone, and condition the client’s hair. A professional stylist or colorist will often have various preferred color lines to recreate any shade, as well as thorough knowledge to omit any unwanted tones from desired final look.

A lightweight heat protectant spray or serum should be used sparingly before blow drying. You should also be mindful of any harsh chemicals that would strip or harm hair color, such as chlorine, harsh water, or styling products containing excessive alcohol content.

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a fun yet classic, fall-inspired look. My favorite thing about it is the dimension in the color with the rich chocolate brown base and copper red ends.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

To recreate these windswept waves, I recommend Aircraft mousse by R+Co to blow dry, a Paul Mitchell Ion Unclipped curl stick for the waves, and Apres Beach Wave Spray by Oribe for finishing the look.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

Cool skin tones pull off this shade of red hair best. Finer hair types can really benefit from this style as it gives them the illusion of more volume.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

My number one tip for maintaining the vibrancy in this color would be using a professional color-safe shampoo and conditioner such as Beautiful Color by Oribe. This is in combination with using a heat/uv protectant like Foundation Mist by Oribe before any styling.

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this look as a classic layered “lob” with a full fringe and a bit of spice! My favorite thing about it is the fringe and how it flows with the rest of the cut. The auburn color just makes the overall look absolutely gorgeous.

Which products would you recommend for this look?

I recommend a color-safe shampoo and conditioner like Aquage Smoothing Shampoo and Fanola Nutricare Conditioner. I also spritz in some It’s a 10 Leave-In, as well as Kenra Blow Dry Spray. For volume, I used Kenra Root Lifting Spray, then cocktailed Aquage Straightening Ultragel and Kenra Silkening Gloss to smooth out her ends. I used Aquage Beyond Shine as my thermal protector while creating her waves with my flat iron, and finally I used Aquage Finishing Spray to hold her waves.

Which skin tones and hair types can pull off this color/style combo best?

This pretty auburn color can be pulled off by a variety of skin tones. There are both cool and warm elements to this color, making it very versatile for all skin tones.

What is your best tip in regards to recreating/maintaining this look?

My best tip to recreate this look is to ask your stylist for an elongated lob with layers and a full fringe. As for the color, ask for a medium red-brown/auburn. My best tip for maintaining this look is keeping that hair trimmed! Lobs with bangs tend to lose their shape without regular maintenance.
