Q&A with style creator, Kit Doughty
Stylist @ Split Endz Salon in Broomall, PA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a long bob. My favorite haircut to do! It’s styled with a 1-inch wand to create conservative beach waves. Everything about this look catches my attention!

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

I typically use smoothing lusterizers along with shine sprays, but it really depends on the texture of the hair.

What type of person would this look work best for?

This look is good for anyone willing to come into the salon to maintain and keep up with the haircut. It is an easy look for both experienced clients or inexperienced clients. This cut is great for outgoing and fun personalities!

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

My best tip for this look to maintain it with regular salon appointments to keep it nice and graduated. Take good care of your hair and use thermal sprays.

Long, Lived-in Layered Bob

Q&A with style creator, Shauna Belli
Stylist @ Twist Salon in Virginia Beach & Chesapeake, Virginia

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a long bob that has shattered, lived-in layers to create movement. Lived-in styles are a huge trend right now because they look effortless, but are still so stylish. That’s my favorite thing about it! I love haircuts that have lived-in texture. They look fresh, but not brand new.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

To create this look, I applied Arrojo Defrizz Serum (or any smoothing serum will work) and Arrojo Cream Whip (or any volumizing product like a light mousse) before the blow dry. I then used a rounded edge flat iron (my favorite is a Sultra Seductress) to create a lived-in wave. Once your waves have cooled, run your fingers through them. To finish this look, you can spray in a texture spray, a dry shampoo, or my favorite a product — Puff Me! I spray it in my hands and work it through the hair. This style also looks great even without a finishing product!

What type of person would this look work best for?

This hairstyle works well for a lot of people, which is why I love it so much. This look is short enough to be stylish, but also long enough to be put into a ponytail, braided, or styled into an updo.

I love the length on any face shape, age, lifestyle and personality. I think it really opens up the face and gives a youthful look while still being professional. It’s great for a working woman, a stay at home mom, a teenager, or even someone in their later years. It is also a great look when styled straight. It really is so versatile!

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

GO FOR IT and don’t look back. This is a super trendy, super cute, super stylish and very versatile style. Everyone who gets this look loves it!

Strong and Classic Shaped Bob

Strong and classic bob hairstyleStrong and classic bob hairstyleNikki Jackson / Instagram

Q&A with style creator, Nikki Jackson
Independent Stylist @ Ego Hair Studio in West Yorkshire, U.K.

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a classic long bob. My favorite thing about this look is its versatility. It’s a strong and classic shape, but it can also have more texture for a more relaxed/bohemian look.

Which products would you recommend to maintain this look?

Lightened hair can some sometimes feel a little dry, and cheap products can also strip the color out, so a salon quality color protecting shampoo and conditioner like Schwarzkopf Color Freeze is essential. Schwarzkopf OSIS Refresh Dust Bodifying Dry Shampoo is also a good product to add volume and texture.

What type of person would this look work for?

This classic shape that falls below the jawline will suit and flatter any face shape. The color will suit cool skin tones, like someone with fair skin and a little pink in their cheeks. The color will definitely not suit olive skin tones because it would wash them out.

A Versatile Long Bob

A versatile long bob haircutA versatile long bob haircutChloe Loesch / Instagram

Q&A with style creator, Chloe Loesch
Stylist @ Rocco Altobelli Salon in Minneapolis, MN

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This medium length lob is beautiful and versatile. It is easy to style like a bob, but you’re still able to ponytail it when you need it out of your way!

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

These bouncy beach waves can be achieved with any flat iron between one and two inches wide. Prep the hair with a heat protectant and mousse with light hold, then dry hair completely before using your flat iron. Once hair is dry, work your way around the head, curling in small sections with your flat iron. The pieces around the front hairline should be curled away from the face, but everywhere else you should alternate toward and away from the face to achieve this tousled beachy look.

What type of person would this look work best for?

The lob is great for anyone who is tired of dealing with really long hair, but isn’t quite sure if they want to go all the way short. It is also especially good for straight or wavy-haired gals with fine hair that gets wispy on the ends when it gets too long and layered. The lob keeps these hair types looking healthy and full!

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

Get on YouTube and check out some flat iron curling tutorials. Trust me, it’s easy once you get the hang of it! When you pick out pictures you like of the cut, try to find ones that look similar to your natural hair texture as well as ones that are styled like you would like to style it. Bring those to your stylist and get PUMPED for your awesome new hairstyle!

Sunkissed Bob

Q&A with style creator, Emma Gottwald
Hairstylist @ at Royals Hair in Sydney, Australia

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a textured long bob. It’s quite a “lived in” beachy style. One of the best things about this look is that you can spend 30 minutes styling it or spray some sea salt in and spend 30 seconds. It’s very playful and usually you can get a couple days out of the look if you don’t have oily hair.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

I would definitely recommend anyone that has this style to stay stocked up on sea salt spray as it’s quite versatile. You can spray and scrunch it in when the hair is damp for a more natural beachy look, or spray it in dry hair before curling and it will help to hold your curl in and create the texture which makes this look. With all the drying products that would be used as well, I also recommend using a hydrating masque every second to third wash. Heat protection is key as well!

What type of person would this look work best for?

This style can be cut to suit most face shapes. As usual, an oval shaped face is perfect for this look, but it would also help to balance out a heart shaped face. I would recommend a more layered version for angular face shapes. This look can be worn smooth and straight, but if you’re anything like men texture is life! This is definitely one for the more relaxed of us.

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

If you have long hair and are looking at cutting it shorter, make sure you are 100% confident in your decision don’t do it in the same day that you come up with the idea. At the same time, hair is fun and yes it does grow back, so why not live a little?

Blonde Princess

Q&A with style creator, Aaron Josen
Hairstylist @ Aaron Kameron Hair in Bedfordshire

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

To me, this look represents a fun, edgy, unique woman with a modern day twist. The best part about creating this style is that when the hair is pulled behind the face from the back, the hair is one length. When brought forward, the hair from the front has been cut at a subtle angle, allowing the hair to have many dimensions from any angle the hair is looked at.

Helping with this illusion, the layers around the crown area have been cut specifically to the head shape creating a natural flow. The front layers have been over directed back toward the crown so they follow the baseline of the hair. This particular style can be roughed dried to create texture and movement in the hair, which most modern day women love as it means less time trying to make your hair look natural. It can just be natural with the added addition of few wand curls randomly into the hair creating a wavier, beachy look!

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

Sea salt spray all the way! It’s great when the hair has been rough dried and you need to get out the house quick before grabbing that coffee. I used Maria Nila products which are 100% vegan. It sounds almost decades old, but mousse is amazing to add into wet hair because it adds more volume to the root area. The best part about these products is that they do not feel as though you have anything in your hair at all.
What type of person would this look work best for?

In my honest opinion, anyone with medium to thick hair, coarse hair, or fine hair (but a lot of it!) can wear this cut. It has that blunt look to it which finishes off the look and makes the lob cut look effortless. It is suitable for all lifestyles. While this hair can be low maintenance, when in the wrong hands you can come out of the chair with the dreaded triangular look.

I would avoid this hairstyle if your hair does not agree with humidity. If you still want the look, you can get a treatment that fights against humidity like Kerastraight which eliminates frizz from the hair.
What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

My best advice to give anyone going for this chop is to do your homework and find a hair artist that can create this look. Although may not be difficult, you can run the risk of coming out with a triangular head which must be avoided at all costs! Ensure you have a thorough consultation with your stylist. There are no limitations with hair when you are in the right hands!

Long Bob With Soft Layers

long bob soft layerslong bob soft layersInstagram @brennahansenhair

Q&A with style creator, Brenna Hansen
Hairstylist in St. George, Utah

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a sun kissed brunette with honey tones on a longer bob haircut with soft layers. I love all the natural looks for hair. You can brighten and freshen up a look by adding just a little dimension. Less is almost always more. I love that the long wispy layers give it a breezy, natural look that really compliments the color.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

I recommend a lightweight blow dry cream to smooth and tame frizz like Pureology Antisplit Blow Dry Cream. I also like omething for a little bounce like Redken Velvet Gelatin. Lastly, a heat protectant spray with a light hold, like Redken Iron Shape, is a must when smoothing or waving.

What type of person would this look work best for?

This haircut is very versatile for many face shapes. You can add a long bang/fringe to help soften a short forehead or hide a long forehead. It hits shoulder length so it draws attention downward, really helping to elongate a round face.

The natural looking color is low maintenance for guests who like to go longer in between color and haircut services. The medium length haircut and layers are such that it grows out nicely so the guest doesn’t need to come back every five to six weeks for a trim to reshape. This haircut is actually on someone who has fine and partially thinning hair. It has worked very well to help her hair feel thicker. The longer thin hair gets, the more stringy and thin it looks.

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

Find a stylist who specializes in this type of natural look and be willing to invest in styling products and take the time to style. Additionally, always take into consideration your time schedule. How often do you want to go to the salon? How often do you blow dry?

Textured Long Bob

textured long bobtextured long bobInstagram / @hairbyginala

Q&A with Style Creator, Gina Chioccariello
Hairstylist @ Umberto Salon in Beverly Hills

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a textured long bob. I love it because it’s for the girl that wants cool current look, but doesn’t want to go too short. It is a versatile mid length so you don’t have to chop off all your hair to achieve it!

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

First, I always put in a leave-in conditioner on wet hair like L’anza Leave-In or Unite 75 Seconds leave in spray. Put it all over the hair and ends and let it air dry into this look or blow it out with paddle brush. Then, use a curling iron or flat iron to put in some loose waves and finish off the look with a texture spray like Oribe Texturizing Spray. To hold the look, I love Redken 12 versatile hairspray. It provides great hold without being overly strong or sticky!

What type of person would this look work best for?

This look works great on everyone, but especially those with round faces because the long layers elongate the face and make it appear thinner. It’s yet another wash-and-go sexy look that is so popular right now and is an easy style for clients who have straight to wavy hair. With just a little more work, those with curly hair can wear it too.

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

No matter how you dry this look (air dry or blow dry), you have to finish it off with 1-1 1/2-inch curling iron or flat iron to create these waves. Leave the ends out as you curl to create this sexy, lived-in look.

Natural Glowing Lob

Q&A with Style Creator Melissa Carlson
Hairstylist @ Winslow Salon in Kirkland, WA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a textured, mid length, angled haircut with a combination of foils and balayage to create soft dimension with a natural grow outline.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

I like to use Oribe Grandiose Mousse on the roots when hair is damp. After the blow dry and curl, I use Oribe Dry Texture spray to break up the curls with my fingers to create volume and a beachy look. I finish this look off with Oribe Supershine to take away frizz and bring together the finished look.

What type of person would this look work best for?

This cut is very versatile and can be done on fine to thick hair, you just need to adjust the amount of weight taken out based on hair texture. This is a great cut for oval, round and square faces as it is very flattering to the jawline. With the right direction, this can be a very easy cut to style. It looks great blown out straight, or even just air dried with added curls. It does need a little effort though, as all hair does. 5-10 curls and some great products will get you out the door!

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

My biggest tip for someone considering this look would be that it does need to be styled, blown out straight or curled or even just air dried and curled. Do not overthink it when curling. Always be prepared to buy a few products and the right size curling iron to make this look come together.

Piecey Bob

Q&A with style creator, Jennifer Norris
Master stylist @ Beyond salon and Spa in St. Petersburg, FL

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is piecey, lived-in, mid length bob. I love that it’s so versatile and has so much movement to it because of the soft layering throughout the ends.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

Anything that will give the hair volume and texture! If your hair is more wavy or has a tendency to frizz, use something with slight smoothing properties along with an added texturizing product. My favorite is Aveda Thickening Tonic sprayed all over for that soft, beachy effect.

What type of person would this look work best for?

Anyone can wear this cut and that is why it’s one of my favorites. It is very flattering! If you have a more round or square face shape, you don’t want to have any of the layers cut too closely to your jawline. This look does have longer layers throughout to keep it soft in the ends, so nothing cut shorter than mid neck is best.

Being that it’s cut with a razor and is a little longer than a bob, it falls on the more lower maintenance side. It’s a great option for someone who wants a more polished look that’s easy to style, but doesn’t want to come to the salon as often to shape it up.

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

Just go for it! This length has so many styling options, even though it’s not considered long. Just make sure you schedule your cuts every 8-10 weeks to maintain that beautiful line and keep the ends from bulking out.

Sophisticated Long Bob

Q&A with style creator, Malorie Talley
Cosmetologist and Cosmetology Instructor @ Brian Avery Salon in Northport, AL

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This look is sophisticated. I love long bobs for ANYONE! Creating the length in the front helps elongate the face and shows off the neck. I love this haircut because I feel EVERYONE is able to wear it. It is just simply a classic look. You can switch the part to middle or side to create a whole different look.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

The products I recommend would be a good shampoo and conditioner that will not weigh the hair down so you can get full movement from the cut. I used Paul Mitchell Awaphui Wild Ginger Texturizing Sea Spray before blow drying. I also used Paul Mitchell Hot off the Press before waving with my Paul Mitchell Smooth smoothing iron. I set in the look with a light hold hairspray (Paul Mitchell Hold Me Tight) so it would set in the style but still have a natural feel.

What type of person would this look work best for?

I feel this type of haircut would look great on anyone. I love to use this haircut on women who have fine, thin hair because we cut a blunt, hard line and no layers which makes the appearance of the hair seem thicker and fuller. On people with thick hair, I cut long layers to create movement in the hair and also help the hair lay better. I also love to add in a long swoop bang. It gives it an asymmetrical look without really cutting it asymmetrically. This haircut is easy and could be worn tousled or styled for any event.

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

My best tip is TO JUST TRY IT! I was skeptical at first, but when I had this cut on myself I absolutely loved it. At first it may be difficult to figure out how your prefer it to be styled daily, but I always tell my clients to just practice and if you don’t like it, try again. Never give up because your hair is your personality and you will find a way to style it that you will love!

Try some men’s grooming paste. I prefer a matte paste and just run it through the tips of the hair creating points and texture!

Textured & Blunt

textured blunt bob haircuttextured blunt bob haircutInstagram @miyataylor___

Q&A with style creator, Miya Taylor
Senior Hair Designer @ Kenneth Brown Salon in Laguna Niguel, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This look is best described as a textured, blunt, collarbone-length bob. My favorite thing about this is that it makes a woman feel fabulous by bringing the oh so sexy collarbone to the main stage. It can be styled in a light beach wave or straight for more sophistication.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

I recommend a mousse or blow dry cream to help bulk up the texture.Once the hair is dry, apply a light styling spray, curling mist or lightweight hairspray (non flammable) to help ensure a nice curl. After your beach waves are in, you would then spray a next-day or texture spray product right at the root. Tousle strands from the scalp and apply a shine cream or light paste to the ends for separation and texture.

What type of person would this look work best for?

This look is pretty versatile and works for many face shapes, but it is best on oval or heart shapes. This look is perfect for people who like to make a style statement. The color would work best with a cool skin tone.

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

My best tip for someone considering this look is that you can’t go wrong. It’s not too short, it’s not too long and I think you will have a lot of fun styling it! However, if you’re I someone who doesn’t want to spend a bit of time on your look, this wouldn’t be your best bet. It requires some time to dry and style. You can get it down quick after some practice!

Fresh, Metallic Undertones

Q&A with style creator, Lorie Therrien
Senior Stylist @ The Sapphire Hair Lounge in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This long bob look is young and fresh! I love the metallic undertones of this smokey blue. It’s so interesting and different.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

I always recommend a quality, color-safe shampoo and conditioner to maintain any color. For styling, start with a great base product and use something that gives a little extra hold like Kevin Murphy Anti Gravity cream. It is a volumizing blowout cream that has just enough tack to hold your heat styling. Finish with a light hold paste and mess things up to bring out that texture!

What type of person would this look work best for?

This length is great on almost everyone from fine to coarse hair textures. The color is also flattering on most skin tones. A pastel/metallic color is extra high maintenance, so expect to be in the salon every three to five weeks to keep this color fresh!

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

When considering this look, go for the length! I find my clients are more inclined to put in the extra effort to style their hair. It’s quick and easy but still long enough to ponytail.

Color wise, pre-lightening to palest blonde isn’t always achievable. Be realistic with expectations when trying out these fun hues!

Spicy Hot Long Bob

Q&A with style creator, Anna Johnson
Advanced Artist @ Atelier Salon in San Jose, California

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This spicy hot chili pepper hair in a long bob is not for the faint of heart! I love creating tone on tone color which consists of weaving different colors in the same family next to one other. A long bob is universally flattering and looks great straight or curly.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

The most important products are a color protectant and heat protectant. Both ensure your investment in your hair. I love Aveda’s Color Conserve Daily Color Protect as it contains both. You apply it to towel dried hair and it is totally weightless. Red hair loses vibrancy faster than other colors and Aveda’s Madder Root Conditioner is an amazing way to add tone at home for more color longevity.

What type of person would this look work best for?

A long bob hairstyle is one of the most versatile haircuts and works on any face shape. It is long enough to pull into a ponytail and faster to blow dry or curl than long hair. Shorter hair has more built in shape than long hair. It is also great for fine hair to boost volume and fullness.

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

A long bob is a fantastically easy and modern update. There is no awkward grow in, so there are no downsides to taking the plunge! I love beveling the ends under with a straight iron to fake doing a full blowout.

Lived-In Long Bob

Q&A with style creator, Leo Luna
Independent Hairstylist in Fairy Meadow, NSW, Australia

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this as a dimensional, lived-in blonde on a long bob. I love how effortless and beachy it is!

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

I recommend Fashionwaves 07 (sea salt mist) and Fashionwork 12 (ligh thold hairspray) to piece it out.

What type of person would this look work best for?

I created this low maintenance look to suit her outdoorsy and active lifestyle. She can wear it straight or wavy and I selected the tones for longevity and to compliment her cool skin tone.

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

Make friends with a bit of sea salt spray and a dry shampoo to achieve this look at home, and try not to be too perfect when styling. Have fun!

Dramatic Bob

Q&A with style creator, Morgan Duncan
Hairstylist @ Michael Kelley Salon and Spa in Ventura, CA

How would you describe this look and what’s your favorite thing about it?

This is a dramatic mid-length bob. The angle created with scissors from the back of the haircut to the front creates a dramatic look that I absolutely love.

Which products would you recommend to help create and maintain this look?

For styling at home, I would recommend getting Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. Use this product when hair is damp and then blow dry for a smooth and shiny finish.

What type of person would this look work best for?

Anyone can rock this hairstyle! I have so many clients that are concerned about a bob making their face look too round. As a stylist, it is so important to analyze the client’s hair and customize the cut for her in regard to texturizing, length, etc.

What’s your best tip for someone who’s considering this look?

My best tip for women considering this look is DON’T BE SCARED. Go for it!

The Beauty Bob

This look exudes beauty, fun, and oh so much volume! It’s great for a night out with the girls or catching a game with your favorite sports fan. This will be your go to look for every event!
Fun Long Bob with Volume and CurlsFun Long Bob with Volume and CurlsStyle by Edie’s Styling Center, Oldsmar, FL

How To Style:

Apply a spray-in root volumizer to damp hair. Comb through to avoid any overly saturated spots, then mist ends with a blow dry spray.Blow dry hair using a small round brush. This will help to hold curls and add extra volume. Lift hair away and up while drying. If you have a cool shot on your blow dryer, use it before removing the brush from your ends. If you don’t have one, no worries! All you need to do is remove the heat and let your ends cool on the round brush for 10-15 seconds.Apply a soft wax to your hands and rub them together to activate. Starting at your ends, run fingers through hair.If you desire more curl than you’ve created with the round brush, turn on a 1-inch curling iron. Wrap sections of hair around the iron and hold for 10 seconds. Let curls cool before separating with fingers.Recommended Products:

For extra volume at the top root area, try a volumizing powder. Kevin Murphy Powder Puff helps give lift and volume to the finest hair. Apply to your root area and rub it in to activate lift. For extreme volume, backcomb lightly.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Any face shape can achieve this style and look amazing! Medium to thick wavy hair will make it easy to style.

Tip:

If your curls are falling flat after blow drying, go back through with a 1-inch curling iron.  After curling each section, pin the curl up using a pin curl clip (available at your local beauty supply). Let curls cool completely, remove clips, mist with hairspray, then separate with your fingers.

Simply Straight

A long straight bob is sleek and sophisticated. It can take you anywhere from the office, to a night out, or even to school.

How To Style:

After washing and conditioning hair with a sulffate-free shampoo and conditioner, apply a straightening cream to hair. Comb through hair to ensure product is distributed evenly.Begin blow drying hair using a flat paddle brush. Make sure to keep your blow dryer pointed towards your ends. This helps to keep your hair smooth and minimizes flyaways.Turn your flat iron on the lowest heat setting for your hair type. Mist hair with a heat protection spray. Section hair into three sections (each side and back) and secure with clips.Bring one-inch sections down and comb through to take out any tangles. Starting near your root area, slide the flat iron through each section. Be sure to keep the flat iron moving as this helps to keep heat damage away. After you’ve smoothed out your entire head, apply a shine serum, starting at your ends.Recommended Products:

There are a few amazing products to help you achieve this sleek look! Pravana’s NEVO Model Behavior is heat activated, lightweight, and serious adds shine. Heat Protection Spray by Label.m will protect your hair without adding any hold or weight. Perfection Shine Serum by Pravana adds shine, smooths flyaways, and nourishes your hair from the inside.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Heart shaped face beauties with wavy to straight hair that is medium to fine will rock this look with ease.

Tip:

Take the guess work out of flat iron shopping. Ask your stylist for a recommendation on one they sell at the salon. If they don’t have them, go to your local beauty supply and look for a Hot tools or Babyliss ceramic iron. Both are good brands that experienced stylists use in the salon!

Soft Asymmetric Lob

Adding an asymmetric swing on one side of this long bob not only adds interest and style, but will update your look too. This is also a great step in starting to grow your hair out, although you may just change your mind!
Soft Asymmetric LobSoft Asymmetric LobStyle by The Brown Aveda Institute, Mentor, OH

How To Style:

Add a volumizing cream to damp hair. Comb through to ensure product is evenly distributed.Begin to blow dry hair using a vent brush to remove 80% of the moisture, then will switch to a medium to large round brush. This will save you a lot of unnecessary time round brushing! While drying hair with a round brush, work in sections, clipping hair up and out of the way as you work.Direct the area on both sides of your head from the ears forward, tucking the ends under.Once hair is completely dry, you can smooth any areas that may need it with a flat iron set at the lowest heat setting for your hair type.Apply a shine serum (like Pravana’s Perfection Shine Serum) to your palms. Rub them together to activate the product, then distribute from your ends up.Recommended Products:

A lot of finer haired clients are scared to put any type of lotion in their hair, but Kevin Murphys Full Again thickening lotion doesn’t weigh your hair down and creates a full and smooth blowout!

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Every face shape will look great with this look. Any hair type can also wear this look, you just may need to change up your product mix a bit according to your hair type.

Tip:

When working with curly or wavy hair, use a straightening cream in place of a thickening cream. When drying your hair, work in small sections and make sure the air is directed down towards the floor to avoid frizz.

Sleek and Framed

A smooth, sleek finish to the classic lob with great straight-across fringe is all the rage this season. It’s easy to wear day or night!
Sleek Lob with BangsSleek Lob with BangsStyle by Kenneth Shuler Schools

How To Style:

Apply a thickening cream or mousse to damp hair and comb through to make sure it’s evenly distributed.Begin blow drying hair, starting in the fringe area. You want to make sure they dry how you want them, especially if you have any strong growth patterns. Use a comb to direct hair straight down and side to side to give your bangs movement while laying  straight across forehead.Continue drying hair in sections. Clip hair not being dryed up and out of your way.  Use an oval shaped brush as this will help to turn ends under slightly without having too much of a “curled” look.Once hair is dried completely, if needed, you can smooth any trouble areas with a flat iron set at the lowest heat setting for your hair type.Mist with your favorite hairspray and you are ready to go!Recommended Products:

For great shine, hold, and volume, try Pravana NEVO Full Volume volumizing foam. When used through ends of hair and blown dry, it creates a soft touchable volume. For more extreme volume you can add it from your root area straight through your ends!

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Heart, oval and square shaped faces look amazing in this long bob, while finer hair that is straight in texture wear this nicely.

Tip:

If you are done blow drying and your ends need a lot of smoothing with the flat iron, you just may be in need of a haircut! Keeping up with regular trims keeps your hair healthy and makes styling a breeze.

How To Style:

After shampooing hair with a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, apply a beach wave spray.Blow dry hair using a vent or paddle brush. You don’t want your blow dry to be too perfect as this look is all about texture, so be sure not to pull it too straight. After hair is completely dry, turn on a 1½-inch curling iron or curling wand.Section hair into three sections — each side and back. Secure each section with clips.Starting in the back, drop down 1½ to two-inch sections to work with.Wrap hair around the iron or wand, hold for 30 seconds, then drop and let cool. This may take some practice, but the ends of your hair do not need to be held right to the iron. Leave just enough space to not burn your fingers.Continue curling through your entire head. Once all curls have cooled, mist again with beach wave spray, then flip your head over and give it a shake.Place your waves and mist with hairspray if needed.Recommended Products:

Kevin Murphy has the most amazing Beach Wave Texturing Spray! It smells just like the beach and works wonders on even the softest of hair textures. It will help hold the waves in, create texture and movement, all without building up, weighing down, or making your hair feel like you have a lot of product in it!

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Any face shape with hair that is straight or wavy in texture,  thick, medium, or fine will turn heads all year in this beachy bob!

Tip:

To dress this look up, simply pull one side back and place a flower or sparkly clip in, or add a headband to match your outfit!

Red Waves

With a vibrant color like red, shampoo is crutial in keeping your color. Always use a sulfate-free shampoo! To keep your hair moisturized and vibrant, try Pravana NEVO’s new Color Enhancer Treatment in Copper, Red or Mahogany.
